How To Get That Pregnancy Glow | The Body Shop Vitamin C Line
Finally cutting the silence and the hiatus! :) I am back in blogging grind! And here's one that's definitely overdue and one I know most of you are anticipating! What skin care am I using now that I'm pregnant?
The pregnancy glow has eluded me and it has eluded me quite well. Actually, it and I have never really crossed paths even when I wasn't pregnant. I always had to fake that youthful glowing skin. That's how it was and I was okay with it. I knew I could find something out there that would help me even in my delicate state.
A lot of you asked me at the beginning of my pregnancy what skin care I was using. I have to be honest, it took a while for me to settle into a certain skin care regimen during my first trimester. I searched for products that are safe for expecting women and one that I could tolerate the scent of...
And so I came across The Body Shop's Vitamin C Collection. More after the jump! :)
I loved the citrusy scent of The Body Shop's Vitamin C Collection! Citrus was the few scents that I liked during the difficulty of my first trimester. So I knew I had something worth checking out. Another is that, its all-natural ingredients are safe for expecting moms like me. I liked the promise of The Body Shop's Vitamin C, to refresh dull skin. To which I was suffering badly from, thanks to the onslaught and haywire hormones that this pregnancy has brought me.
Camu Camu Berry is the main ingredient which was proven to have the highest content of Vitamin C in nature! Vitamin C is a natural antioxidant, boosts collagen production and protects the skin from environmental aggressors. It revitalizes the skin and gives it the radiant effect. It's one of the most effect skin brighter and is used in a lot of facial treatments that cost thousands of pesos.
Current state of my skin when I started using this line:
- Extremely oily
- Unusually large pores
- Frequent appearance of acne bumps on the foreheads
- Bouts of cystic acne all over the face
- Darkening of the edge of the face
First up is the The Body Shop Vitamin C Facial Cleansing Polish.
Vitamin C Facial Cleansing Polish
With a gel-like consistency, The Body Shop Vitamin C Facial Cleansing Polish is love when used against a sensitive skin. Provided that this contains micro-beads, it's very gentle and leaves the skin feeling soft and smooth as expected. It doesn't lather like a regular facial wash which took me a while to get used to. My mind had to take some convincing that it's really cleaning my face well.
I read that some found the micro-beads harsh for daily use but I didn't experience that. It actually felt stimulating and soothing especially in the morning. And I think it actually helps with the total effect of giving that radiant, full-own glow look that it promises.
The Body Shop Vitamin C Facial Cleansing Polish also contains aloe vera which I think help soothes and hydrates my skin every after wash.
I definitely noticed a change. My face looked brighter and after washing, there is that refreshing feel that I was looking for. It effectively removes excess makeup and dirt. There's none of the squeaky feel that I always look for but my face feels slighter tighter and taunt every after wash.
Next up on the cleansing part of this line is the The Body Shop Vitamin C Microdermabrasion. A deeper, more serious exfoliator compared to the Facial Polish.
The Body Shop Vitamin C Microdermabrasion
Since I'm advised to skip facials, I had to resort to DIY deep exfoliation at home. And I'm not always up for the task. But The Body Shop Vitamin C Microdermabrasion mimic's a spa-like experience. The garnet particle really feels like the ones they use at facial houses and spas. The beads are very fine and it really leaves your skin well stimulated, smooth and baby skin soft!
The ingredient Amazonian Camu Camu Berry which to date, has the highest contents of Vitamin C in nature assures you you're getting a potent dose of antioxidant as you gently exfoliate your skin.
I seriously feel different after every wash. My face feels softer and looks clearer significantly. With this alone, I could tell my forehead acne lessened by half. My whiteheads and blackheads lessed and so does the appearance of my pores. For someone who badly relies on facials, I can't believe that my skin is really improving by just this product alone!
I suggest that you work the beads on the skin with soft hand. Don't press the beads on to your face but just gently roll them around. With a heavy hand, the garnet will definitely feel harsh against your skin. Avoid rubbing it on the sides of your nose, around the eyes and the corner of your lips to avoid stingy sensation or redness.
I do this once or twice a week, depending on how my skin feels. :)
Now we're done with cleansers, let's move on to protection. One of their best-selling product, The Body Shop Vitamin C Moisturiser with SPF 30.
The Body Shop Vitamin C Moisturiser with SPF 30
Still continuing with The Body Shop Vitamin C Line, I chose to get the Vitamin C Daily Moisturiser with SPF 30 as daily skin protection. It's my moisturizer and sunscreen in one.
I surprise myself sometimes with how pregnancy has changed me. I was never the moisturizer type of girl before but now I am enjoying its benefits. Since I stay indoors most of the time exposed to the skin drying air condition, I noticed that oil build up is lesser with a moisturizer in tow--since we all know that with drier skin, oil glands doubly work hard. And this product being both moisturizer and sunscreen allows me to hit two birds with one stone.
First the consistency is not at all icky, it feels like a regular sunscreen. It's opaque white cream that blends well when applied. It leaves the skin hydrated and best of all, protected from sun damage. No need to apply a separate product. The Sesame Seed Oil hydrates the skin well but not overly so that I feel icky and sticky. It actually is well-absorbed on to the skin a minute or two from application.
Like I said, I'm not a moisturizer person, but I make an exception with The Body Shop Vitamin C Moisturizer with SPF30. It's not your run off the mill goopy moisturizer. It's easy to work with, smells amazing, thanks to the potent Camu Camu Berry and Sesame Seed oil, it leaves your skin well-hydrated and protected. And it doesn't break me out!
My fave mix: After applying The Body Shop Vitamin C Moisturiser with SPF 30, I top it off immediately with the All-In-One Face Base. The mix of the two gives my skin better coverage. :) If you have problematic skin like I do, you'll love these together!
With daily protection, comes also Night time regimen! Here comes The Body Shop Vitamin C Facial Radiance Capsule.

So your face is cleansed, protected in the morning and you exfoliate well at least one or twice a week. Your skin should be looking lovely now. :) And yes, my skin improved exponentially using these products I mentioned above.
But what sealed the deal for me with this skin-dullness-fighting skin care line is The Body Shop Vitamin C Facial Radiance Capsule. These babies are like magic potions in a cap.
It has the highest concentration of Camu Camu Berry among all the Vitamin C line. It's a full-on dose of Vit C for your skin. This is legit and really works magic for me. In just one night, I already noticed that my skin was way smoother. Ten days later, the dullness was completely gone even when suffering from momsomia. My skin just looks brighter and fresher with each day of use.
Each cap is good for my whole face and neck. I try not to be stingy and use one cap each night to fully experience it's potential. I even use it on special occasions as a primer since it blends well to the skin and the foundation just glides easily against it, giving my skin better coverage.
It's been really hard for me to deal with bad skin while being pregnant. I can't only think of myself. I have to think of my baby and how she is affected by anything that I put on my face. For a time, it really was affecting my confidence.
I'm glad I found The Body Shop Vitamin C skin care line. It assures me that I am using something that's safe for pregnant women like me, affordable enough, brand that is easily accessible for me, and one that truly works!
And you know how I know it did work? People started to compliment me and my skin telling me I have that pregnancy glow look.
Effect of The Body Shop Vitamin C line after two months of use. :)
My skin definitely looked fresher.. Pimples has significantly lessened (saved for a few hormonal bumps here and there on the chin). Skin looks and feels softer and smoother. And yey! to achieving that glowing skin without resorting to harmful ingredients or going to my facialist! I really didn't think it possible but it happened.
So do you I recommend this skin care line? Of course! Pregnant or not, if you think your skin is in a dull state, better get yourself this line. :) Use it well and allow the potent Vitamin C work into your skin.
And oh! Stay positive! That pregnancy glow may have been elusive but being pregnant has brought so much joy that I think helped these products. Surround yourself with happy people, happy thoughts and don't skip on your radiance capsules. :) And without even knowing it, people will start complimenting you and how beautiful your skin has become! :)
