Oh how I adore the 1920's. The dancing, the jazz, the flapper dresses and feathers... most of all the makeup! It is just all out.. exactly how I like it.
Cinematic looks in the 1920's requires a lot of definition. Fashion photographs such as the picture you see was done with a lot of contouring. Black and white photography's tendency is to flatten the face making it one dimensional. Not at all flattering. Besides that, 1920's was an age of consumption or decadence as economy was booming at the begining of this decade and fell at the end of it. Industrial and architectural designs rose and the use of colors became apparent like gold, bronze, teal, silver, steel and chrome. Lacquer was introduced. Definitely strong, bold and dark shades.
It was also the rise of the Art Deco movement, a style of art is structure and linear. Most popular artist at that time was Pablo Picasso.
