Clean Recipe | Banana Oats Cocoa Smoothie
One of the things that you'd crave for when trying to live a clean-eating lifestyle are sweets. A whole lot of it. I wouldn't be where I am now if I watched all the sugar I ate in my life.
Wag po akong tularan. (Don't be like me!)
Clean eating is difficult at the beginning. You have to unlearn what you know about food. You have to re-learn certain types of food and how to incorporate them in your lifestyle. A lot of people like myself find this the most tedious process because we are innately on survival mode. Makakain lang, okay na! The body will fight every step of the way so that bullshit stuff they tell you, it's all in the mind? That's bullshit. Utter bull. Mahirap po siya especially if you are always in view of food that you now realize are unhealthy AF.
Allow me to be technical so this will be credible. As per World Heath Organization, we only need about half, even less of our usual sugar intake. The problem with our food these days is that there are a lot of hidden sugars in it that is not written in the ingredient list. No wonder wonder there are a lot of people who would rather make their food than buy sugar-free stuff. You really can't vouch for anything that is canned, boxed and bottled.
I'm also sure that you have seen articles that says sugar is highly addictive and studies have shown that the effects of sugar have similarities to that of drug dependency.
So to say that this journey is hard is a complete understatement because I am a Soda addict. I used to drink Coke a lot and it's really hitting me hard.
To survive, I have to do a lot of googling and you-tubing. Yes, you have at your fingertips the chance to stop this sugar-dependency. I did find a lot of recipes for sugar-free desserts that looks yummy but most of them are hard to make or have ingredients that are hard to find. You would want to make this but when you're PMS'ing, you really won't have the patience.
This, I tell is one of the best-tasting smoothie ever and the easiest to make! You won't even crave a for frappe when you drink this. What's even better is that you can prepare this for the kiddos as well.
Banana Oats Cocoa Breakfast Smoothie
Ingredients:
1 - 1/2 Banana (lakatan because it's sweeter)
1 cup Almond Milk (or a plant-based milk of your choice)
1 tbsp Almond Butter (or sugar-free peanut butter)
1 tsp honey or maple syrup (optional)
1/2 cup instant oats (you can do 1/4 )
1 tsp cocoa powder (actually, optional!)
Instruction:
Blend all ingredient together. Add ice if you want a shake consistency. Viola! Your smoothie is made. Transfer to a tumbler or a mason jar and enjoy!
This is also a breakfast smoothie so if you're in hurry in the morning, you can prepare this in a jar at night and blend in the morning. It's that fast. One mason jar quelches my hunger pangs for about 4-5 hours. So you can easily have this if you know you won't have time for mid-afternoon snacks or if you know you'll have a late dinner. For kids, you can substitute Almond milk to soy or organic milk.
This recipe is inspired from Cooking with Plants Banana Oatmeal Smoothie. I just added the cocoa for variety.
All the ingredients are either available at grocery, S&R or even online. I got my Almond Butter from Mad Max at Echo Store in Podium (around 450). I will blog more about Mad Max in my upcoming post.
I don't suggest you have this everyday. Probably 3 times a week just to help you adjust to your clean-eating lifestyle and to sate your cravings for sweets.
Happy Clean Eating! Hope you enjoy this simple recipe and share with me your photos if you make one! Much love!!
